Twenty-five years in the service industry. To write that down…takes its toll on my heart. And also clarifies so much.
Preparing food, working as a cashier, a babysitter, server, a call centre agent, retail …many things in between, and then massage therapist. Through all of it, I have always given high quality service. A lot of that came from deep conditioning — the fear of failure, of disappointing others. The need for perfection. As a child, I was shaped to prioritize performance over presence. High scores in the real world sell us the illusion of success…and for a long time, I participated.
But here’s what I’ve learned: being good at what you do doesn’t automatically earn you respect. In our capitalist culture, the language that seems to communicate worth is price. “This is how much I know I’m worth.”
Respect also shows up as trust. Trusting your therapist to do the work — and doing your part. Arriving hydrated. Having moved your body. Coming to receive, not just to be fixed so you can return to the grind.
As I’ve shared in my recent posts — the body needs so much more than a technique applied to it. It needs hydration, movement, breath, presence. And it needs time. The practitioner needs time to listen, to follow, to facilitate what the body is actually ready to release.
I don’t offer a fluffy therapeutic massage. I offer over 12 years in my hands…and 12 years of my energy field learning to sense into yours. I offer presence & intuition — skills that are rarely factored into the value of a session, and yet so often the reason why my work is received differently.
Can you put a price on someone’s presence? On their intuition? This world has not yet learned to account for that. But I’m learning to.
What I am moving toward is longer, session-based care — unbound from time frames and what your insurance coverage enables you to access — where we can weave together the layers of your being and create the space for your body to open and release in ways that just don’t happen when we’re racing a clock.
Everything is connected. Let’s work like it is.
This shift is here…and it will require something of you too. To show up differently than you might be used to when you arrive for a massage. We go deep, or perhaps we’re not meant to work together — and that’s okay. My energy and life force have higher standards than my human self ever allowed for. My gifts and the true value of my hands and intuition are finally meeting…and inviting me to step up.
So I’ll leave you with this:
What is your wellness worth to you? Your peace of mind? Your sense of freedom?
What are you willing to pay — in dollars, in time, in the cost of staying stuck?
I invite you to explore how this work is changing…and how I’ll be showing up to offer my energy, experience and joy in the world. 🤍
